Bernburg Town Hall
A special “eye-catcher” is the town hall, built in 1895 in the style of historicism (neo-Renaissance). A structural peculiarity is the much older portal of the tower. The flower clock on its front dates to 1938.
The interior of the town hall also has many special features. The geographic-astronomical art clock by the nationally and internationally renowned clockmaker Johann Ignaz Fuchs is a technical gem. It shows the Bernburg time, sidereal time, the moon’s movement, a calendar and the time of 20 world cities. The mechanism comprises 196 wheels, gears and levers. At the heart of the clock sits a gear wheel turning once in four years. Even in leap years, the clock doesn't need to be adjusted. Johann Ignaz Fuchs donated this masterpiece of clockmaking to his adopted hometown in 1878.
