The signposting along the route is generally good. In Germany, the R1 coincides with the D-Route 3. In Saxony-Anhalt, it also coincides with the cycle routes German Unity (Radweg Deutsche Einheit) and Orange (Oranierroute), as well as with other cycle and hiking paths, among them a circular trail through the Harz Mountains, the routes along the Elbe and between Berlin and Leipzig, and the Luther trail (Lutherweg), making variations and explorations possible.
