Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau had a forest park laid out to the west of Vockerode in the years following 1777. The entrance to this park artfully incorporates the natural tree growth into its design. In this “forest solitude” you will find a small classicistic castle in the shape of a Roman temple: the “Solitude”. The inscription above the entrance, “Der Besserung“ („For recovery“) reveals the building’s former use as a spa for prince Franz’s rheumatic complaints. It probably also served as a meeting place for secret diplomatic negotiations.
