Großkühnau Castle and Park
A UNESCO World Heritage Site
The park of Großkühnau is the youngest complex of the Dessau-Wörlitz Garden Kingdom (a UNESCO World Heritage Site). To enter, one has to pass the Knight’s Gate with its larger-than-life figure groups. Mars and Venus can be found here, but also Theseus and Ariadne.
The house on the vineyard (Weinberghaus, built in 1819/1820 by C.I. Pozzzi) is the center of this spacious complex comprising small-scale structures. From this hill one looks down on Lake Kühnau. The park Kühnau and the lake form an idyllic ensemble with the neo-Romanesque church and Kühnau Castle, the seat of the Dessau-Wörlitz Cultural Foundation.
