Harzgerode
The town of Harzgerode in the middle of the Harz Nature Park comprises 13 districts. The area itself took its name from a small river, the Selke, whose valley boasts a unique flora and fauna. It is often considered one of the most beautiful nature reserves in Germany.
Harzgerode is crossed by the national hiking trail "Selketal-Stieg". You can also discover the landscape with the historic Selketalbahn, which is part of the 140 km long route network of the Harzer Schmalspurbahn. The railroad connects districts, hiking routes and sights. Along the Selke you can visit the mining museum "Grube Glasebach" Straßberg, the adventure house "Alte Grundschule" Güntersberge, the Waldhof Silberhütte with various offers, the historical bathing resort Alexisbad with monuments and lookout points or the Carlswerk, a walkable technical monument in Mägdesprung. The town center of Harzgerode with its half-timbered town hall, the castle of the dynasty of Anhalt-Bernburg as well as the St. Marien church with its collection of heraldry and emblems invite you to take a look.
