Wolfen Industrial and Film Museum
A guided tour through the museum explains the process of film stock production. The museum staff highlights interesting aspects of the hard work in the darkrooms and share the history of AGFA and ORWO. In 1936, the world’s first universally usable multi-layer color film was produced here. The original machine used back then is on display.
A highlight is the museum’s “treasure chamber” holding over 800 cameras. This is the largest such collection in Saxony-Anhalt open to the public, showcasing a cross-section of mainly German cameras. The section on the industrial history of the Bitterfeld-Wolfen region sends visitors on a journey through time from the year 1800 to the year 2004 to learn how an agricultural region became one of the largest industrial regions of Central Germany through brief texts, illustrations and a multimedia presentation.
Besides the permanent exhibition, sideshows, lectures and film screenings take place. In addition, the museum also offers a wide range of educational programs for school classes on the subject “film and its production.” These are, despite their curriculum-oriented content, fun and exciting.
