A fitting conclusion to the Kühnau Landscape Park. A Glimpse Inside the Großkühnau Church
The Großkühnau Church was built by Leopold IV Friedrich, the grandson of Prince Franz. It is integrated into the landscape and serves as a central link between the city of Dessau-Roßlau and Kühnau Park. The new church, built in the Neo-Romanesque style, is one of the earliest of its kind in Germany and is also considered the last major architectural achievement in the Garden Kingdom of Dessau-Wörlitz. During a tour of the building, participants will learn more about its history and Leopold IV’s intentions when he had the previous structure demolished in 1828.

Guided Tour: “A Trip to Arcadia and Back”
On an educational journey that took him through Italy, France, the Netherlands, and England in the mid-18th century, Prince Franz of Anhalt-Dessau gathered impressions and experiences that he put into practice when modernizing his principality. On a stroll through the Georgengarten, you can retrace this Grand Tour. Nestled within the expansive, idyllic landscape garden, you’ll see Greek temples, Roman ruins, Celtic burial mounds, and Egyptian sphinxes.
