100 years of Bauhaus in Dessau - Bauhaus anniversary 2025/2026
In 1925/1926, the Bauhaus found its architectural home in Dessau - a place where art, craftsmanship and technology merged into a revolutionary unity.
One hundred years later, Dessau is celebrating the anniversary of a movement that went far beyond architecture and continues to set standards worldwide to this day. Naturally, the Bauhaus buildings have left their mark on the city of Dessau.
In the anniversary year 2025, the city of Dessau is inviting visitors to rediscover the visions of the Bauhaus.
Under the motto ‘To the substance’, the focus is on modern and contemporary materials (brick, concrete/cement, iron/steel, aluminium and glass).
Exhibitions, festivals, concerts and performances
Exhibitions, festivals, concerts and performances will bring the spirit of the Bauhaus into the present - lively, interdisciplinary and forward-looking.
At the centre of the anniversary is a series of exhibitions which, in addition to the Bauhaus building, will also include the historic employment office, the Junkers-Lamellenhalle with Stahlhaus, the Schultheiß-Patzenhofer brewery and the Bauhaus Museum Dessau.

Founded in Weimar in 1919 by Walter Gropius, the Bauhaus experienced its heyday in Dessau between 1925 and 1932. To this day, the influence of the School of Design continues to shape contemporary architecture, design and art. The Bauhaus building in Dessau is recognised worldwide as an icon of modernism and, together with the Masters' Houses, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1996. In 2017, the Bauhaus World Heritage Site was extended to include the arcade houses.
